A history of Chronic Wasting Disease in Manitoba, what it is, and how it spreads. With the discovery of CWD in Manitoba, this presentation focuses on what the province is doing to reduce the spread of CWD and what the public can do to assist with CWD management.

Kelsey Saboraki is a biologist for the Government of Manitoba’s Wildlife Health Program. As a wildlife health biologist, Kelsey leads wildlife monitoring and management projects involving diseases such as avian influenza, meningeal worm, bovine tuberculosis, and Chronic Wasting Disease. Before joining the Wildlife Health Program in 2021, Kelsey worked as a research technician for the University of Winnipeg where she also completed her graduate work. As part of the U of W’s “Lingle Lab”, Kelsey observed mule deer and white-tailed deer in southern Alberta to examine species and sex differences in behaviours that show potential for disease transmission.
