Nature Manitoba Outings

Nature Manitoba conducts a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year. Our activities include canoeing, hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, camping, cross-country skiing, and other outdoor recreational pursuits. All Outdoor Activities are free for members, with the exception of any cabin/park fees if applicable, and the Grey Hares group is listed separately. Non-members may attend a trip or two at no cost, in order explore the option of membership. Before registering for a trip please review the safety requirements and the difficulty rating using the following Trip Rating Guidelines.

Seven Sisters and environs

Hike 'n Hunt for the Crocus: Western MB

A full-day hike around Neepawa and Minnedosa around crocus time. A full-day 12-14 km. hike scouring Arden - crocus capital of Manitoba - for those spring flowers, and a tripartite offering of trails around Neepawa and Minnedosa. The grand finale is the first spring dinner of the season in Minnedosa. For Nature Manitoba members only.

Wander the wonderful Whiteshell trails

Explore the north and mid-range areas of Whiteshell Provincial Park along its many trails (ca. 15 km. worth), including sections of the great Trans Canada Trail. This is an all-day hike with a late return to Winnipeg.

Cycle Itasca State Park in Minnesota FULL

Join Al and Ken to do day cycles in the area of Itasca State Park in  Minnesota. It contains the headwaters of the Mississippi River. It is about 400 kilometres from Winnipeg . Overnight we would stay in a hostel where cost is about $ 30 US a night . Passport required to cross the Canada -US Border.

Canoe Camping

Canoe camping from Stewart L to Winnange L and return (Experimental lakes area)

Maximum of 7 paddlers.

If weather is too tumultuous, then car camping in Riding Mountain.

No maximum for this other than cannot fill the park.

Libau/Beaconia/Brokenhead Wetland

We will look for prairie, wetland and woodland birds north of Libau. Red-headed Woodpecker, Yellow-throated Vireo, Orchard Oriole, Bobolink, Nelson’s Sparrow, Virginia Rail and a variety of warblers, raptors and shorebirds are all possible. We will finish the outing with a walk along the boardwalk at the Brokenhead Wetland Ecological Reserve.

Assiniboine Park

Hiking Rivers Provincial Park and Brandon Area

Mantario Trail north end day hike

Hike Camping

August 31, 2019 to September 2, 2019
Major Trips / INTERMEDIATE

Hike from the bison compound to the Minnedosa River backcountry campsite (about 5 km one way and mostly flat). Could be a bike camping trip if participants want to do that. Spend a day exploring the north end of Grasshopper Valley where you might see elk. Maximum of 8 participants. If weather is not nice, could car camp at Lake Audy instead.
