Join Jerry for a 2 week canoe trip starting at Caribou Falls Power dam, travelling to the southern boundary of Woodland Caribou park (Sydney Lake) and then returning to the power dam launch site. The trip involves about 200 km of paddling (2 x 100 each way) and a total of about 10 portages (2 x 5 each way). GO TO READ MORE. Umfreville Lake (a backup from the dam of 3 lakes combined) and the Sturgeon River (a tributary of the English R that starts life in the southern part of Woodland Caribou park (just west of Leano L) is the path paddled. I have canoed the Sturgeon twice when a lot younger. Time #1 started at Davidson, up the Bird system across the southern edge of WCP, down the Sturgeon into Umfreville, then Gordon lake (the mine at the end of the Davidson lake road) and back to Davidson). Time #2 started at Tulabi, up the Bird system, etc but then portaged the dam, down the English R into the Winnipeg R, then Crowduck Creek & lake, ending at Big Whiteshell L. The trip will start Monday Aug 14 and end Sunday Aug 27. There should be time for about 4 layover days on the trip. Email Jerry at raven981@me.com if interested. Limit is 8 people (would likely have to split into two camping groups of 4 if 8 participate). It will be a "first come, first serve” list.
