Bees & Wasps
Location: Earl Grey Community Club, 360 Cockburn St. North Fee: $10 for Nature Manitoba members (or students), $15 for non-members Bees and wasps in your backyard.....
There are several hundred species of bees and wasps in Manitoba. Many remain poorly known.
In 2023, a checklist of the bees of Manitoba was published, which expanded the number of species known by more than 100. Little work has been done documenting the wasp fauna of the province. Although social wasps consistently receive negative attention, wasps are ecologically diverse and most go unnoticed. Bee and wasp diversity will be highlighted with a focus on why we should be happy to have them in our backyards.

Ski at Agassiz Provincial Forest (cancelled -- icy trails)
Location: Agassiz Provincial Forest.
Time: Meet at the Tim Hortons on Lagimodière Blvd at Headmaster Row (1 km south of the North Perimeter Highway) at 10:45 AM for carpooling. It will take 15 minutes to form carpools, use washrooms, and move non-driver’s cars a block away on Headmaster Row. Or you can meet us at the trailhead at noon, ready to ski. Map (80 km / 50 minutes from Tim Hortons to the trailhead, 15 km west of Lac du Bonnet on PTH 317)
Description: The Lac du Bonnet Cross Country Ski Club maintains 16K of ski trails in the Agassiz Provincial Forest. See https://ccsam.ca/where-to-ski/trails/groups/agassiz-provincial-forest for complete info about the trails (including a trails map). Anita will be leading the group throughout the day. Kevin will be skiing back-and-forth to keep track of everyone, ensuring everyone is doing OK and skiing with at least one other person, and ensuring we re-group at various times. This is an "easy" trail system with flat to gently rolling terrain, but the far end of it is almost 5K from the trailhead, and we are likely to be the only skiers there, so we've rated it Intermediate. Expect to ski a minimum of 10K. The most advanced skiers will probably end up near 20K.
Trail fee: Anita will collect a $5 trail fee from each attendee. Afterwards we will e-transfer the amount collected to the Lac du Bonnet Cross Country Ski Club.
Lunch: There is an old one-open-side shelter on the Blue trail that has an old pit toilet nearby. Trails map. We will stop there. If it is a cold day, perhaps eat before arriving at the trailhead and/or snack while skiing. There is a large trail map and port-a-potty at the trailhead.
Bring: Your name tag.

==============================================
This presentation will briefly introduce the Manitoba Association of Watersheds and the work done between the Watershed Districts and producers to address current and future concerns before delving into the Living Lab project. The Living Lab - Eastern Prairies project took place in four sub-watersheds over four years and allowed 40+ producers to collaborate with Agriculture and Agri-Food researchers to develop practices, supported through science, that would benefit farmers economically and sustainably for the unpredictable future. The outcomes from the project and its future impacts will be further discussed.
Nathanial has worked with Manitoba Association of Watersheds for close to one and a half years now. He completed his Land and Water Management diploma at Assiniboine Community College in 2022, holds a BSc in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies from Bishops University, and is an Environmental Professional Trainee through EcoCanada. He has a great interest in the environment, its preservation, and its interactions with anthropogenic activities.
