COVID-19 Info for Nature Manitoba Activities

Information on changes to NM activities

Hello Nature Manitoba members and friends,

Following the advisories from health authorities, and working groups regarding COVID-19, we have made the following changes to our activities:

Reopening

Our Board and staff are working carefully to ensure we have best practices and policy in place so our re-opening can be safe and successful. Please have patience as we navigate these challenges.

Nature Manitoba is working hard to put a re-opening plan in place for our activities this summer! We are doing our best to ensure we have best practices and policy in place so our re-opening can be safe and successful, as well as meet the needs of our members who are looking for physical activity and opportunities to be in nature. Please have patience with us as we work through these challenges in unprecedented circumstances, and rest assured that a plan is in the works. For now, we have the following information to share:

Mantario Cabin - open for some private bookings

Although our Mantario Summer Program will not go ahead this year, we are pleased to inform you that we have procedures in place for the summer that will allow us to accommodate some private bookings.

Mantario Cabin bookings are open to approved cabin users and members of their household only, at normal nightly rates paid per person. New booking and cabin procedures (including cleaning, required supplies, and self-screening) are in place in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. A volunteer is coordinating a bookings calendar to ensure there is a 72 hour gap between bookings to reduce risk of any contact between users from different families.

All approved users have received an email with more details. If you are an approved cabin user and have not received an email, please contact our office at info@naturemanitoba.ca

Grey Hares/General Outings

Work is well underway to begin resuming our activities. This will be done in phases to ensure we can make adjustments if needed, as well as to ensure our staff and volunteers can manage additional functions that may be required.

Phase One will included resuming some Grey Hares outings in a limited capacity, with new procedures/policies in place. More information on this and other phases of re-opening will be given as we are able.

Mantario Cabin/Summer Program

The Mantario Summer Program canoe trips to Mantario Cabin have been cancelled for the 2020 season due to public health restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to the Summer Program’s return in 2021.

Updates on the reopening of Mantario Cabin to private bookings by approved cabin users and their immediate family/household will be posted on our website and shared by email in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Garden Tour 2020

After careful consideration Nature Manitoba has made the difficult decision to cancel this year's garden tour due to COVID-19 restrictions. A lot of effort has gone into planning and preparing for the tour and we would like to thank our tour coordinator, Tim Evans, as well as all our garden hosts for their hard work and dedication!

We look forward to making our 2021 garden tour even more special!

Nature Manitoba Office/Store - Closed as of March 24th, 2020

Our staff will be working primarily from home with very limited office hours. The office is now closed to members and the general public, however, we will have access to emails and phone messages. We will not be able to process orders from our online store or in-person orders at this time due to our limited capacity.

Nature Manitoba AGM - Cancelled

The Nature Manitoba Board has discussed our options regarding the upcoming AGM on March 23rd. The in-person AGM meeting at The Franco Manitoban Cultural Centre has been cancelled.

An electronic copy of the 2019 Annual Report is available here and printed copies by request at 204-943-9029. An email has been sent to members in order to accomplish other AGM business such as election of officers and Board members, approval of the individual reports and voting on the advertised resolution.

Award results were announced online.

Nature Manitoba Workshops - Cancelled

As of March 13th, all Nature Manitoba workshops will be cancelled until further notice. If you have already registered for a workshop you will have the option of receiving a full refund for your payment or considering it a donation to our organization (with tax receipt). Someone from our office will contact you as soon as possible.

Nature Manitoba Outdoor Trips - Cancelled until further notice

Based on updated information, as well as the state of emergency in Manitoba being declared, Nature Manitoba has now made the difficult decision to cancel all Nature Manitoba-led activities. At this time we feel that encouraging group activities (even those outdoors) is not in keeping with the advise of various health agencies.

Until we hear otherwise, we strongly encourage members and the general public to continue to enjoy outdoor activities. However, we are following guidelines set out by Canada Public Health Services and other agencies in recommending the following:

- that these activities should be done individually or only within family/household groups
- that they are done when and where it is possible to keep to the social distancing guidelines of staying 2 meters apart from other people
- that anyone who is ill, or has returned from travelling within the last 14 days, stays home

We thank you for your understanding in making these hard decisions, but the health and safety of our membership and community is our first priority.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Messages can be left at 204-943-9029 or send an email to info@naturemanitoba.ca
