Bridging the Gap Gaining Support

Bridging the Gap is a unique non-formal educational program that seeks to bring together Indigenous and western ways of knowing for children living in an urban context. The program is run by Nature Manitoba in partnership with educators and other learning organizations.

The focus is on providing opportunities for children to participate in year-round environmental education programming through various activities. Including awareness and experiences around food sustainability and connecting with the land, each other and our mentors.

Programs sessions include outdoor field trips in different weather and habitats, hands on gardening and child-led nature exploration, as well as connection with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, in participants' own communities and throughout Treaty 1 territory.

Children played, learned and connected with the land and their peers through exploration of natural areas and experiences with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers on Treaty 1 territory."

Students were saying:   "these are exactly the things we've been learning about in class!" "Mrs G. you choose the best field trips!"

Through the generous support of funders such as the TD Friends of the Environment Fund in 2024 BtG was able to provide free access, transportation and facilitation to our nature programs and field trips to over 700 children and youth in Winnipeg's inner city!
