The Dirty Dozen Manitoban Tyrants

$5 for Nature Manitoba members, $10 for non-members (students: $3 for members, $5 for non-members).

We will examine Manitoba's regularly occurring Tyrant flycatchers (Family Tyrannidae), plus a vagrant and potential vagrants. This will include an overview of the family, including a little of its evolutionary history; for example, do you know what makes this family unique amongst Manitoba's passerine families? We will discuss each species' distribution and habitat, key behavioural aspects, and, of course, how to identify this tricky bunch by sight and by sound.

Mid-March to mid-April - Raptors and a host of other birds migrate north along the Red River and Pembina River valleys in early spring. Come join the birders who monitor this migration. They will be present from mid-morning at either site on most days from mid-March to mid-April, especially when it is sunny with a south wind. The St. Adolphe site is on the east side of the bridge on PR. 210.

The Windygates site is on PR. 201 at the Pembina River Valley.

Watches are not scheduled, so there is no need to register. Come and go as you please.

Please join us for our 2018 AGM! The AGM will take place at 7pm at the Franco-Manitoban Cultural Centre (340 Provencher Blvd) on the second floor (Salle Antoine-Gaborieau). After a brief meeting, we are excited to bring back our "member's night", which will feature three 20-minute presentations from our NM members:

Les McCann - Progress in Saving a small tall grass prairie

Tim Poole - Cranes, trains and plenty of grebes in Manitoba's IBAs: Highlights from 2017 and a look forward to the "Year of the Bird"

Roger Turenne - Canoeing the Wilds of Wabakimi

Light refreshments will be served, and there is no charge for members for the evening. More information is available here. Hope to see you on March 19th at 7pm!
