Birding at La Barriere Park
Contact / Registration: Ward Christianson and Marlene Waldron -- regster at mjwaldron2016@gmail.com . There is a limit of 20 participants. This activity is subject to dry weather.
Location: Meet in the main parking lot at La Barriere Park.
Time: 8:30 AM to ~11:00 AM
Description: We will walk through the park looking and listening for birds, with a particular focus on the spring migrants which should be peaking at this time.
Lunch: Pack a picnic lunch for afterwards.
Bring: Binoculars and field guide if you have one, water bottle, and your name tag.
Paddle Seine River, Shorehill Bridge to Prairie Grove section
Contact / Registration: Kevin & Anita Miller -- register at k.a.miller@mts.net As of May 20, there are 18 registered paddlers, one of whom is a canoe owner who can paddle solo or have a bow paddler.
Time: Meet at 9:30 AM. Launch by 10:00.
Launch location: Behind Morrow Gospel Church. This is point #11 on the Paddling the Seine map.
Description: We are assuming (hoping) the water level on the Seine River will rise as a result of the May 16/17/18 rain. From the launch location, paddle upstream to the rail line with the very narrow culvert located south of the Perimeter Hwy in Prairie Grove (point #4 on the Paddling the Seine map). Then paddle downstream back to the launch location. 12.5K . This is section 5 plus most of section 6 on the Paddling the Seine map. (" ... thanks to a riffle structure at Shorehill Drive, often the highest water level of the Seine within Winnipeg.")
Lunch: We will have lunch at an appropriate time at an appropriate location along the way.
Boats: If you don’t have a canoe or kayak, we can try to partner you with a canoe owner who is looking for a bow paddler.
Mandatory safety equipment for all Grey Hares paddling activities: • A Personal Floatation Device (PFD). • A sound signalling device (AKA "whistle"). • A bailer. • A buoyant heaving line (AKA "rope") at least 15 metres long. • Extra warm clothes. A sponge is a good idea (especially for a kayak) because it helps you completely drain your boat.
Rating: Novice (bow paddler in the canoe of an experienced stern paddler) to intermediate.
Bring: Lunch, water, sunscreen, your name tag.

Shoal Lakes, St. Ambroise and Delta
This outing will provide a good chance for seeing many waterfowl, grebes and herons, raptors and shorebirds. A visit to the PR. 227 garbage dump may turn up a rare gull. We will depart (carpool) from the northwest corner of the Garden City shopping mall parking lot at 7:30 a.m. The outing will be led by Josh Dewitt and Nelson Chubey.
