The perfect way to learn about birds and birding!
If you are interested in learning the basics of birding but don’t know where to start or you need help identifying birds, this series of outings is for you. The outings take place every Tuesday evening from April 29th through May 27th. Meet at various local parks and always start at 6:30 p.m. These outings are led by Ward Christianson and Marlene Waldron, supported by other knowledgeable birders each outing.

Due to overwhelming numbers for these events registration is now required on Eventbrite. Members will be free to register and a $5.00 fee will apply to non-members (per event ticket). Note there is a limited number of tickets available.

Registration will open up to members each Wednesday prior to the event each week and the general public on the Saturday prior to the event each week.  See individual activities for additonal information.

Contact / Registration:

Kevin & Anita Miller -- register at k.a.miller@mts.net  As of May 20, there are 18 registered paddlers, one of whom is a canoe owner who can paddle solo or have a bow paddler.

Time: Meet at 9:30 AM. Launch by 10:00.

Launch location: Behind Morrow Gospel Church. This is point #11 on the Paddling the Seine map.

Description: We are assuming (hoping) the water level on the Seine River will rise as a result of the May 16/17/18 rain.
From the launch location, paddle upstream to the rail line with the very narrow culvert located south of the Perimeter Hwy in Prairie Grove (point #4 on the Paddling the Seine map). Then paddle downstream back to the launch location. 12.5K .
This is section 5 plus most of section 6 on the Paddling the Seine map. (" ... thanks to a riffle structure at Shorehill Drive, often the highest water level of the Seine within Winnipeg.")

Lunch: We will have lunch at an appropriate time at an appropriate location along the way.

Boats: If you don’t have a canoe or kayak, we can try to partner you with a canoe owner who is looking for a bow paddler.

Mandatory safety equipment for all Grey Hares paddling activities:
• A Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
• A sound signalling device (AKA "whistle").
• A bailer.
• A buoyant heaving line (AKA "rope") at least 15 metres long.
• Extra warm clothes.
A sponge is a good idea (especially for a kayak) because it helps you completely drain your boat.

Rating: Novice (bow paddler in the canoe of an experienced stern paddler) to intermediate.

Bring: Lunch, water, sunscreen, your name tag.
